Bucharest: The Stand-up Comedy Game

Stand-up comedy began to gain popularity in the United States in the 1970s, when comedians began giving comic monologues in clubs and theaters. In Romania, stand-up comedy started to become popular around the 2010s, when stand-up shows began to be organized in clubs. This trend was influenced by the popularity of the first comedy groups, such as "Divertis" and "Vacanța Mare", but also by the sketches of comedy actors on TV. Lately, stand-up comedy has been promoted a lot on TV in shows like iUmor, StandUp Revolution or Romania has ROAST. It was also promoted on the Internet in series such as "Laugh like a fool", "Una Scurta", "I don't know, I say" or "See your joke".
